Mr Earley’s tireless campaigning led to more than 900 people signing a petition calling for council to build the crossing two years ago. In mid-July this year, work finally commenced.
“It’s already starting to slow traffic down,” he said. “That’s been a issue here with cars speeding down the hill where we have a lot of school children crossing here morning and afternoon.”
“There needed to be a safe pedestrian crossing and improved footpaths to access this beautiful area.”
Tourism and increased housing has increased traffic for the Mollymook thoroughfare.
