On the back of helping the Bulldogs win the under 18s premiership in September, half Whitford and hooker Fitzpatrick have been included in the initial 31-player squad – which will train in through November and December before the team is finalised.
On top of the premiership, Fitzpatrick was named man of the match for the grand final, as well as being Steelers Harold Matthews player of the year.
Other Group 7 products named in the squad include Gerringong pair Hamish Holland and Kuyan Wellington, Warilla-Lake South duo Blake Dowel and Sam Hooper, Berry-Shoalhaven Heads Oliver Parrish and Albion Park-Oak Flats’ Jack Walsh.
Bulldogs club mate Riley Wooden has also been rewarded with Steelers selection, being named in the Harold Matthews squad alongside fellow Group 7 products Louie Chilver and Mitchell Langford (Berry-Shoalhaven Heads), Joshua Coric, Liam Lynch, Harley Nizza and Cooper Tunbridge (Albion Park-Oak Flats) and Trey Barlow (Stingrays of Shellharbour).
