The Milton Uniting Church, built in 1872, was passed in at auction for $1.25 million on February 4 and then placed on the market.
It has been sold to a Sydney family, who wish to remain anonymous, for $1.4 million to be renovated and used as a residential property.
“They plan to ‘sympathetically renovate’ the manst and the church to residential properties,” agent Chris Coffey said.
“Their long term plan is occupancy the property when they retire.”
Mr Coffey said they was great interest in Croobyar Road property, however it was suited to a niche buyer.
Due to council restrictions the buyer needed to be someone with a long term plan to keep it it as a residential property rather than a commercial property.

“Due to council restrictions the buyer needed to be someone with a long term plan to keep it it as a residential property rather than a commercial property,” he said.
“There was multiple interest and multiple offers on the property.
“These people approached the agent prior to the auction, were at the auction, were impressed with the property and have purchased it.
Reverend Tony Davis said the sale of the property inevitable due to increased costs and the need to be more visible.
“Its obviously a difficult decision to make,” he said.
“There is a lot of tradition and story linked with the site for many in the community, but we realise its the best decision for the people.”
“The sale will enable us to develop our Ulladulla site.”
Considerations were made to move to the Milton location, but was deemed too expensive.
The church bell, stolen on February 26, still has not been found.
