The annual charity golf day for the Milton-Ulladulla Cancer Outpatients Appeal (COA) teed off at 11am on May 19 in an effort to raise money for the cancer and palliative care units.
Although numbers were down on previous events, which had attracted 120 players, organisers hoped to raise $10,000. A raffle and an auction in the afternoon contributed to the fundraising goal.
COA volunteer Julie Sinclair said they needed all the help they could get to continue raising money for the service.
“We raise about $50,000 a year from fundraising,” she said.
“We need all the help we can get. The sponsors and everyone who supports us are marvelous.”
Mrs Sinclair said although the news palliative care unit in Milton would open soon, they had to fit it out and maintain it.
“We have to maintain the cancer unit and the palliative care unit,” she said.
“We supply the wigs, any equipment that breaks down, the painting, the garden and the maintenance of the building.
“We need money ongoing.”
Staff training and development was also paid for with fundraising. Mrs Sinclair said there were a few items the units needed that the COA would aim to purchase.
The COA will hold a fundraising dinner in August and a Melbourne Cup lunch on November.
