The prestigious event, set to commence on September 23 at the superb break of Okuragahama beach in Hyuga City on the southern island of Kyushu, will gather surfing’s top 18 and under surfers to represent their nations and compete for gold.
The 12-strong Australian junior surfing team have hopes of going one better than last year’s silver medal with the team make-up including;
Under 18 boys – Jack Thomas, Samson Coulter, Dylan Moffat and Morgan Cibilic
Under 16 boys – Xavier Huxtable, Mikey McDonagh, Alister Reginato and Jagger Bartholomew
Under 18 girls – India Robinson and Zahli Kelly
Under 16 girls – Jamaica Selby and Sophia Fulton
The tournament’s opening ceremony will be staged on Saturday, September 23 at Hyuga, Japan with surfing set to begin at Okuragahama beach on September 24.
The closing ceremony will be held on October 1 following the Finals.
The Australian junior surfing team journey will be broadcast via a half hour episode of Surfing Australia TV on Channel 9 nationally in December 2017.
