There was a good turn up of almost 20 RATS last Sunday, ready to head out for a walk, run, or ride, on a glorious, still morning. There were four dedicated walkers, a cyclist, quite a few runners and some who did a bit of running and a bit of walking, just to be social.
The run started near the entrance to the Lake Tabourie Tourist Park. The full circuit went out to the highway and then south for a kilometre or so, before turning right into Lemon Tree Creek Road. This is a reasonable, 8km long, dirt road, which twists around, west of the Highway and then returns to the Highway just 2 kilometres south of its starting point. The full run returns straight back along the Highway, from this point.
The walkers did an out and back, part way along Lemon Tree Creek Road, for about 8km. Some runners did out and backs, for anything from 6km. Those who did the full loop, covered about 14km and really earned their coffee, which was enjoyed on the harbour, at Native, where the clear, sunny morning really enhanced the view.
RATS in the Field – Melbourne Marathon Festival – October 15:
Coffee Club 10km Race: Holly Grover – 52.32, Tim Grover – 52.32, Gay Shearman – 48.30 & 5th (F55-59)
Next Sunday – October 22 – Handicap 8, Mollymook, 5.5km for all:
Next Sunday is the RATS Handicap, number 8, at South Mollymook Beach, over 5.5km for all participants, in the reverse direction. Please meet at the fourth pergola north of the Surf Club. The event starts at 7am, so if you have not run in the handicap series before, please arrive early enough to be ready to run at 7am.
If you already have a handicap, these will be emailed to you. Please know your handicap and be ready to run at that time. If you have run in both the 10km series and the 5.5km series this year, even though everyone will be running the 5.5km distance, you will need to nominate which series you are contesting and start at the correct handicap time for that event.
Regular Running Training:
Tuesday: 6am, meet at Narrawallee Inlet, for flat interval training, hill or stair work. Suitable for beginners and serious athletes, distances from 1.7km.
Wednesday: 6am, meet at Macca’s car park, up to 10km.
