The man and the victim had been dating for eight years before their relationship ended.
The 42-year-old went to the Northern Shoalhaven house to pack his belongings and the pair began to argue.
The offender grabbed and pulled a bed sheet the victim was standing which caused him to fall backwards and hit his head on the bedpost.
“It’s a domestic violence offence for two reasons,” Magistrate Gabriel Fleming said.
“It occurs in the victim’s house and it’s his partner of a number of years – the last person he would think would assault him.
“It was put to me the relationship was dysfunctional and breaking down; this is commonly why I see domestic violence matters.”
