“It was like winning the Logies,” she said.
The ceremony, held on Wednesday night, saw the who’s who in fresh produce including well established Illawarra and South Coast businesses vying for the blue ribbon.
“It’s such a big competition,” Ms Akers said.
“It’s pretty amazing to win against such well known businesses.
“They have been in it a long time and we are only a tiny little mushroom farm.
“We are pretty stoked.”
Ms Akers said the award was even more meaningful as they do not know who nominated them.
“I found out we were finalists through a notification on Facebook,” she said.
“I was quite excited and thrilled someone had nominated us. I just quite believe it, but then we got all the paperwork in the mail. Then I realised, ‘wow, this is pretty amazing’.”
It’s been a busy year for Shoalhaven Gourmet Mushrooms, who took out all three entered categories at Sydney Royal, with an overall score of 99 per cent, for the third year in a row.
