The all-ages production is sure to thrill audiences as it combines the artistry of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, with an explosion of colour, dance, beautiful and catchy songs, great characters and laughs aplenty.
Director Lloyd McDonald is back leading the Follies production team for his third time and is impressed with the dedication of his talented cast.
The show will feature Follies favourites and new faces of all ages.
“Follies wanted to stage a production which could involve all of our members, both young and old,” Lloyd said.
“Ruth Myers, musical director and I also love this musical, written by the powerhouse composer Andrew Lloyd Webber.
“Audiences never tire of it. Even those who aren’t familiar with the production will probably recognise its famous songs.”
In Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat the audience is told the biblical story of Joseph, played by Caleb Howe, a young man sold into slavery by his jealous brothers.
Joseph, however, gains the admiration of the Egyptian Pharaoh with his uncanny ability to interpret dreams.
He then saves Egypt from the famine and is reconciled with his repentant brothers.
“With laughs and the popular music of Lloyd-Webber throughout, it’s sure to be a winner with local audiences, whether they’re familiar with the story or not,” Lloyd said.
Newly elected Follies president Sean Hendry is delighted by the opportunity the production is offering the community.
“Follies is a community organisation and it’s always our hope to involve as many members of our community as possible,” Sean said.
“We were able to offer roles to everyone who auditioned, which means 44 talented locals of all ages will be treading the boards.
"With the sizeable production team, backstage crew and front of house team as well, our diverse community is well represented by the volunteers working hard to put together a great show for our area.”
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat opens at the Milton Theatre on Friday, November 3 and will play for six shows.
