01 Sep 10 | SHOALHAVEN City Council will use a $1.3 million budget surplus to fund staff leave entitlements. The surplus - and how it should be spent - was the subject of considerable discussion at last Tuesday night's council meeting in Ulladulla. Council's finance and services committee had recommended that the entire amount be transferred to council's Leave Entitlement Reserve.

President of the Milton-Ulladulla Ex-Servos Brian Wilkins, President of the Mollymook Golf Club Paul Connor and Deputy Chairman of the Milton-Ulladulla Bowling Club Barry Martin recently handed out thousands of dollars worth of cheques to deserving local groups.
01 Sep 10 | MEMBER for Gilmore Joanna Gash has vowed to help find a solution to the appalling lack of respite care services in the southern Shoalhaven. Mrs Gash told the Times last week that she would be raising the matter with her colleagues in Federal Parliament and has also promised to work with her state colleagues to address the problem.
Dunn Lewis opening is just days away
01 Sep 10 | THE Dunn Lewis Centre is almost ready to open its doors to the public. The opening date has been set for September 11, from 2pm until late. Founder Gayle Dunn said she wanted as many people as possible to take part in the opening as it had been the community who had effectively built the centre. The opening day will see the St Vincent Street centre come alive with activities inside and out.
Cost blow-out forces rethink
01 Sep 10 | Woolworths has submitted revised plans for its Ulladulla shopping complex following a cost blow-out. Local architect Belinda Scott has been negotiating with Woolies for the past two months in an effort to retain features of the centre that the community has demanded.
Alice ready to plan her shopping spree
01 Sep 10 | ALICE Timbs of Milton is the lucky winner of this year's Dulla Dollars shop local promotion. Alice's name was the third and final to be drawn from the barrel outside Ulladulla Butchery on Monday morning by Senior Constable Lance Richmond from Ulladulla Police.
TWO TOO GOOD
01 Sep 10 | JUDGES were unable to separate the top two businesses at this year’s Rotary Club of Milton-Ulladulla Business of the Year Awards. Sachi on Green in Ulladulla and the Big 4 Bungalow Park in Burrill Lake were last night declared joint winners of the Business of the Year award.
Burrill Lake: Is it a forgotten village?

Big draw set to sizzle
25 Aug 10 | WITH the Times' annual shop local promotion quickly drawing to a close, plans are being finalised for the major draw to be held on Monday, August 30. The draw will be held outside Ulladulla Butchery on the Princes Highway at 11am with a local police officer expected to pluck the winning tickets from a monster barrel.
IMB celebrates another milestone
25 Aug 10 | THE year was 1880. Bush ranger Ned Kelly was hanged for his crimes, school was made compulsory for children between the ages of six and 14 and Grand Flaneur won the Melbourne Cup. In the same year, a small group of Wollongong pioneers formed the Illawarra Mutual Building Society to fund the building of one another's homes.
Owl causes a hoot
25 Aug 10 | A JUVENILE or 'sub-adult' powerful owl has been taken into care after being captured in Ulladulla on Monday afternoon. The bird, believed to be suffering an injury or illness, was captured by members of the Native Animal Rescue Group (NARG) near Franklin's supermarket.
25 Aug 10 | YEAR 12 students from Ulladulla High School (UHS) are likely to sit their Higher School Certificate exams at the town’s civic centre. While students were forced to sit their trial exams at the school, moves have been made to allay any student concerns over the location of next term’s major exams. UHS principal Tracy Provest confirmed the school had been forced to hold the trial exams on site because of the loss of Board of Studies exam venue funding.
Maddi a little miracle

Respite care sadly lacking
25 Aug 10 | GRIEVING the death of her husband should be enough for Ulladulla resident Shirley Neilsen. But the lack of accommodation locally for people with mental disabilities means she has an added worry. Mrs Neilsen and her late husband Bob had been caring for their severely disabled grandson, sixteen-year-old Eric, for the past 15 years.
Teens chasing design dream
25 Aug 10 | THIRTY students from the South Coast and Southern Highlands are competing for more than $100,000 worth of prizes as part of the Institute of Design Ulladulla's scholarship competition. The 30 finalists were selected from more than 100 entries and attended IDU on Saturday where they were addressed by college founder Karl von Busse and asked to complete set tasks.
BACK TO WORK
25 Aug 10 | MEMBER for Gilmore Joanna Gash is celebrating a crushing defeat of Labor hopeful Neil Reilly in Saturday's federal election. Despite a boundary change transforming the electorate from Liberal stronghold to notionally Labor, it took only an hour after polls closed on Saturday evening for Mrs Gash to secure her sixth consecutive term in Federal Parliament.
Industry shines
18 Aug 10 | OPERATORS in the Milton-Ulladulla region are celebrating a superb showing at this year's South Coast Tourism Awards. The awards were announced in Nowra last Tuesday with seven local operators returning home with gold awards. One of the big winners on the night was Bannisters Point Lodge which took out the gold award for deluxe accommodation as well as the gold award for tourism restaurant for Rick Stein at Bannisters.
