Ambos praise quick response

LOCAL paramedics have praised the actions of a Sydney man who cooled his badly-burnt daughter under cold water.

The nine-month-old girl from Penrith in Sydney pulled a kettle of boiling water onto herself at a local caravan park last Wednesday.

The water missed the girl's head and face but left her with severe burns to her arms and legs.

A spokesperson for the NSW Ambulance Service said the quick-thinking father had rushed his daughter to a nearby laundry tub and had cooled her under cold water until paramedics arrived.

Paramedics spent another 30 minutes cooling the baby at the caravan park before transporting her to Milton Hospital.

She was later airlifted to Westmead Children's Hospital in Sydney.

Paramedics also rushed to the Bendalong Point Tourist Park last week after a woman was burnt in a gas bottle explosion.

The woman was airlifted to Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital but the NSW Ambulance Services spokesperson said her injuries were not as bad as initially feared.

He said the first degree burns were equivalent to a severe case of sunburn.

It has been a busy couple of weeks for local paramedics.

On Saturday evening they treated a 35-year-old man trail bike rider after he crashed into a tree near Kioloa.

The man - believed to be travelling at approximately 80 kilometres at the time of the accident - was airlifted to Sydney with critical injuries.

A spokesperson said he suffered chest, spinal and pelvic injuries in the crash, which occurred in thick bushland.

The NSW Ambulance Service helicopter landed next to the rural bush fire brigade shed in Kioloa to collect the injured man.

Also last Saturday, paramedics went to the aid of a 30-year-old man who suffered a seizure and almost drowned at Lake Tabourie.

The man was dragged unconscious from the water and a NSW Ambulance Service spokesperson said he may well have drowned if it hadn't have been for the assistance of onlookers.
