THERE'S expected to be a big crowd at the Milton-Ulladulla Ex-Servo's on Saturday night as local residents shave and colour their heads to help raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.
The club is hoping to raise at least $20,000 this year from its World's Greatest Shave night and local residents are being urged to throw their support behind those people taking part.
The night will kick off with the meat raffles at 6.30pm with the club donating all raffle proceeds to the Leukaemia Foundation cause.
The meat raffles will be followed by a special World's Greatest Shave raffle with a number of local businesses generously donating raffle prizes.
Those people wanting to donate additional prizes can do so by contacting the club's trainee manager, Merran Blair.
The club's Sea Salt Restaurant will be donating 50 per cent of all its takings from the night to the annual Leukaemia Foundation fundraiser but those people wanting to enjoy a meal are advised to book considering it will be such a busy night.
The locks are expected to start falling at approximately 8pm with a number of people already putting their hands up to go bald for a good reason.
They include young Sea Salt employees Carl Ralph and Jack Sydenham, Nicholas Whitmore (who will also be losing his beard), local optometrist Craig Cameron and popular Priceline Pharmacy employee La-ree Stewart.
The winner of last week's car raffle at the club, Paul Hallahan, will also lose his locks for charity.
Simon Chapman from Ulladulla Motors is expected to offer himself up for some chest waxing while others have agreed to take the less painful step of having their hair temporarily coloured.
Tania Hettle and Judy Lobb from Beachcomber Hair Salon in Ulladulla will be looking after the head shaving while Kristen Barr and Mary Andrews from Ingenue Skin and Massage in Milton will be there to take care of the waxing.
The head shaving will take place in the club's main auditorium with an emphasis on family fun.
All funds raised will assist the Leukaemia Foundation in providing much-needed support to the 25 Australians diagnosed every day with leukaemias, lymphomas and myeloma.
The Leukaemia Foundation improves patients' quality of life through personalised and practical care.
This includes providing a 'home away from home' near major treatment centres, information and emotional support, education and support programs, transport to and from hospital and practical assistance free of charge.
The Foundation receives no on-going government funding so relies on the generosity of the community and businesses to support patients in need.
Hair today, gone tomorrow for Leukaemia Foundation supporters
WHILE the focus of the Milton-Ulladulla region's World's Greatest Shave efforts will be Friday night's activities at the Milton-Ulladulla Ex-Servo's, there will be other opportunities for local residents to support the Leukaemia Foundation's annual fundraiser.
There will be a fundraising sausage sizzle at Bunnings Ulladulla from 11am this Friday with people invited to have their heads shaved or their hair coloured from 1pm in the store.
Alternatively they can sponsor members of 'Team Ulladulla' - Bunnings staff members who are either shaving their heads or going red to raise much-needed funds for the Leukaemia Foundation.
Simply go to www.worldsgreatestshave.com and search for Team Ulladulla.
Also today, Ulladulla resident Michelle Thompson will have her head shaved at 4pm this afternoon at the NRMA office where she works.
As reported in last week's edition of the Times, this will be the second time Michelle has taken part in the World Greatest Shave.
She also took part in the event six years ago to mark the 10th anniversary of her father's death as a result of cancer.
Those people wanting to support Michelle can swing by the NRMA office on the corner of Deering Street and the Princes Highway or pledge their support over the Internet at www.worldsgreatestshave.com
Lake Tabourie businessman Paul Desreaux will also be losing his locks this Friday.
Mr Desreaux and his eldest sons Aydon, 14 will have their heads shaved at Pure Face Body Hair in Milton.
Two of his other sons, Bailey, 11 and Brandon 10 will have their hair coloured.
Mr Desreaux said it had been Aydon's idea to take part in the World's Great Shave as a way of remembering their grandfather, Kevin Desreaux, who passed away almost two years ago as a result of a brain tumour.
He said it would be the first time he has ever had his head shaved and admits to feeling a tad nervous.
The family has already raised more than $600 with $300 provided by Eliza from Pure Face Body Hair.
Those people wanting to support Paul and his sons can drop into Tabourie Tuckerbox on the Princes Highway or visit www.worldsgreatestshave.com and search for 'The Desreaux'.
