Bigger, brighter, new Ex-Servo's on the way

AN entirely new bigger and brighter club is being built in front of the existing Milton Ulladulla Ex-Servo's Club.

After four years of planning, construction of the new architecturally-designed club is running on schedule and, depending on the weather, should be complete for Christmas this year.

The roof is on and the club should be to lock-up stage by the end of next month.

Designed by architect John Ryan from Robertson and Marks, the new club will boast three external terrace areas and cover 2980 square metres.

One-and-a-half times larger than the existing club, it also comes with a 10-year-plan for future expansion.

At a cost of $8 million, this state-of-the-art building, situated on the Princes Highway, South Ulladulla, will boast larger TAB, bigger games and sports areas, an external lounge terrace and outdoor bistro, external sports terrace and outdoor gaming room.

A 130-seat bistro and dining area complete with larger kitchen facilities equipped to cater for functions, three separate function centres, larger children's zone and a quiet lounge for relaxing, a larger bottleshop and 94 poker machines have also been incorporated into the plans.

Secretary manager Shelley Payten said everyone was very happy with the ways things were shaping up.

"Everything is coming together as we'd hoped," Shelley said.

"We are very excited about the new club, now underway by Edwards Constructions of Batemans Bay, and the staff are all looking forward to its completion.

"The builders are great - we have even taken staff on-site to see what is happening and everyone is excited about the future.

"We are very happy with the design and layout of the new club, which features a wall of windows and will be a lot lighter inside," she said.

The club held a champagne luncheon for members recently, where the design was explained and an open question time made available.

"There were more than 70 members present, and it was very positive," Shelley said.

The existing club, situated behind the new building, will remain as a function centre.

"The two clubs will be linked via a covered area in between," Shelley said.

"We will be needing more staff with the plan to refurbish the existing club to provide a number of separate function centres for community members to utilise for their 21sts and weddings."

The secretary manager said stage two should commence within a few years and the old building would eventually go to make way for closer carparking.

Mollymook Golf Club is currently undergoing extensions.

Secretary manager Todd Oxborough was not available for comment on the extensions at the time of print.

All sounds good...what a pity it has to have poker machines? To include a facility that is so harmful just to make something else possible says something about our clubs...and that is that they are unethical and too lazy to get off their tails to make 'cleaner' money! Shame on club members for whitewashing the truth so much as to celebrate the means of ruin for so many other people! Clubs have a lot to answer for in my opinion, for the developments they make under the guise of 'do good'!
