Centre reflects on proud past

08 Feb, 2012 12:38 PM
MANY people, young and old, have been a big part of the Ulladulla Children’s Centre over the past 25 years.

But where are they now?

Original staff at the Hollywood Avenue centre included Lynne Clarke, Rhonda Kennedy, Lorraine Gray, Evelyn Hodges, Janet Chaler, Linda Bellm Margaret Rudd and Tina Chetham.

Lynne is now the director of a pre-school in the Newcastle area and will be attending the Ulladulla Children Centre’s 25th anniversary celebration on February 18.

Rhonda Kennedy is still working in child care in the local area while Lorraine Gray has retired and is now living in Queensland.

Evelyn Hodges (cook) is living in Grafton.

Janet Chalker and Linda Bell are still working at the children’s centre while Margaret Rudd will be retiring on February 18 after 25 years’ working in the office.

Current staff are unsure of Tina Chetham’s current whereabouts but would love to hear from her.

The first president of the Ulladulla Children’s Centre committee, Janelle Collins, is a teacher at Ulladulla High School while the second president Sandra Fitch now lives on the Central Coast.

Helen Kellam (president of the committee in 1997) has had four children attend the centre over a 20 year period and still has one child enrolled.

Helen’s first daughter Annalieze attended the centre as a child and now Annalieze’s son James also attends the centre.

Mel Wills has been the committee’s longest serving president (2004-2010).

She continues to wear the President’s hat - but now on the P & C at the Milton Public School.

One of the first children to attend the centre was Marg Rudd’s granddaughter Kathryn Brady.

Kate is now in the Airforce and due to be married this month.

Toree Deacon attended the centre as a toddler and pre-schooler many years ago and returned for a year in 2009 to complete a child care traineeship.

Toree is now studying to become a primary school teacher.

Alex Fitch was also at the centre for a short period of time.

As reported in today’s edition of the Times Alex recently became the first Australian to ever win a medal at the Youth Winter Olympics.

- The Ulladulla Children’s Centre will celebrate its 25th anniversary on Saturday, February 18, between 10am and 2pm. All welcome to attend.
