Community ensures students have a wheely good time

ENGINES were revved while the kids laughed and clapped at Budawang’s Wheels for Wheels Day last week.

Students at Budawang were treated to an afternoon of motors with motorbikes and classic cars on show.

Raising money to help support the Budawang bikes program, the day saw local classic car owners and motor cycle owners visit the school to show off their pride and joy to students and teachers.

Smiling faces greeted each visitor, with the kids enjoying the afternoon.

Budawang teachers got into the spirit, dressing up in bikie garb with leather jackets, bandannas and fake tattoos.

Principal Sheryl Bruffey was overwhelmed by the response to the day.

“The community is always so supportive of us and they have come out to support us again,” she said.

“The kids are having a great time getting up close to the cars.”

Sheryl said the money donated would be a boost to the school bike program.

“The bikes have been such a success we have had several parents buy bikes for the kids at home so they can cycle on the weekends as well as at school,” Sheryl said.

“All the money raised today will go towards helping to maintain the bikes.”

Members of the Milton Ulladulla Vintage Car Club bought along three vehicles for the event and said they would love to bring more vehicles, should the school decide to hold Wheel for Wheels Day again.

“We have had a great response on such short notice and would love to do it again,” Sheryl said.

Student Scott Donnelly was having a great time sitting at the wheel of a classic red convertible and said the day was lots of fun.

“My favourite is this one (The Austin 7),” he said while looking at the car.

“It is a really fun day.”
