AFTER 30 years, Brian Harrington is about to call it quits.
He will be taking his costumed ducks off the road at the end of the year after delighting hundreds of thousands of people across the nation.
Thankfully, local residents will have an opportunity to enjoy Mr Harrington’s show one last time.
Mr Harrington will be performing a total of eight shows at this year’s Milton Show – two every morning and two every afternoon on the Friday and again on the Saturday.
Each show will include a fashion parade and some duck racing and is sure to attract a very large – and very happy – crowd.
Mr Harrington, from Deniliquin, said he became inspired to start dressing ducks after reading Donald Duck comics.
He saw Daisy all dressed up, thought to himself ‘I could do that’ and the rest, as they say, is history
Mr Harrington has about trained 20 ducks.
Some of them have been with him for more than 20 years and are considered part of the family.
They have their own dressmaker and an extensive wardrobe including the ‘latest’ fashion styles.
Their outfits cover everything from day wear and evening wear to bridal wear, race day attire, a ‘Dryzabone’ and even a Jane McGrath Foundation inspired gown.
Mr Harrington told the Times that he had taken his show all over Australia.
He was in Parramatta for this year’s Australia Day celebrations before heading down to Port Fairy and Warrnambool in Victoria.
He said there was hardly a town or city that he hadn’t visited with his show.
“The country has been very good to me,” he told the Times from Port Fairy.
Mr Harrington said his show was the only one of its kind in the world.
Other people had tried doing something similar but had never lasted.
Mr Harrington said his wife, a hospital manager, was retiring at the end of the year and had asked him to do the same.
“It will be a sad day the day we pull the pin,” he told the Times last week.
