Free tyre pressure check for all this Saturday

Free tyre pressure check for all this Saturday

01 Jul, 2009 01:16 PM
LOCAL mechanic Dave Howcroft knows the dangers of having the incorrect tyre pressure.

Increased wear on tyres, increased fuel consumption and steering difficulties are all results of having the incorrect pressure in your tyres.

To help remedy this problem and educate drivers, Dave will run a free tyre pressure service through his business Ulladulla Service Centre.

Located on the corner of Deering Street and St Vincent Street in Ulladulla, Ulladulla Service Centre will open this Saturday from 10am to 12noon to give all drivers the chance to have their tyre pressure checked for free.

“Tyre pressure is something that is grossly overlooked,” Dave said.

“Tyres should be checked at least once a month and should be checked before any long distance travel.”

Getting your tyre pressure checked and fixed this weekend will be easy.

“It will only take a matter of minutes to check all four tyres on a car,” Dave said.

“We are happy to check spare tyres as well.

“At least 40 per cent of the time spare tyres are flat, so even in an emergency they would do no good.”

Dave said tyre pressure is hard to judge with modern tyres.

“You can’t tell by looking at a tyre any more whether the pressure is correct,” he said.

“It is best to check the panel found inside most doors and check the tyre pressure properly.”

While Dave will host the first free check, he has received great support from other local mechanics and businesses and the service is planned to run monthly and be rotated around the different mechanic workshops in the area.

“The other mechanics I have spoken too have been happy to help out with a monthly free tyre service,” he said.

“I think we all understand the dangers of having off tyre pressure.”

Dave joined a panel of experts at last night’s Keeping Out of Harms Way seminar at the Ulladulla Civic Centre and educated those attending on the importance of correct tyre pressure.

“Studies in Great Britain have shown that $2 billion could be saved in fuel costs if people checked and maintained the proper tyre pressure,” Dave said.

“And the extra pressure it takes to steer a half flat tyre around a bend can be 20 to 30 per cent more.”

To have your tyre pressure checked, call in to Ulladulla Service Centre between 10am on 12noon this Saturday.
