MIGHTY MOLLYMOOK

08 Feb, 2012 12:42 PM
MOLLYMOOK continued its winning form at the South Coast Branch Championships held at Shellharbour Beach last weekend.

The nippers competed on Sunday, with seniors on Saturday.

The seniors opened positively with gold in the march past.

While concerned about improving their weaknesses ahead of national titles, they were far too good for this field.

A team of 17 raced on the sand and in the water, and there were a few standout performances.

Holly Munday’s paddle to help win the under 15s board relay was mentioned by many as their favourite effort.

With the field closing, Holly put everything she had into chasing a runner, and when it turned into a wave the Mollymook supporters, all went up as one.

Another great moment was Angus Curry winning the under 15s board race.

The surf always respects hard work, and Angus has barely missed a training session in recent times.

His clear victory is just reward for committed preparation.

Amongst the oldies, Keith Purvis had a breakthrough second in the ironman.

While the podiatrist’s talent in the swim and board were never doubted, he is a newcomer to the ski.

Keith is on the way to taming the most temperamental of the craft, and is realising he can dominate in this sport.

The Taplin relay is like an ironman in relay form, and is the truest test of a club’s depth.

Mollymook can be proud to have won first and third in the masters, and fielded three teams in the opens.

Things are on the rise for the team, and Mollymook looks forward to another carnival this weekend at home against clubs from Warilla to the Victorian border.

The team would like to thank Paul Love for officiating for the beach events all day.
