New program a plus for Mollymook Golf Club

02 Nov, 2011 01:04 PM
MOLLYMOOK Golf Club has become one of the few clubs in NSW offering members an eftpos based loyalty card.

The highly anticipated Mollymook Plus loyalty program was introduced last week.

It enables members to transfer their Mollymook Golf Club reward points into a dollar balance on a Plus Card that can be spent at more than 60,000 retailers across Australia, subject to merchant discretion.

Members can add their own funds to the card for added spending.

Mollymook Golf Club is one of only nine clubs in New South Wales to offer its members an eftpos prepaid loyalty card program designed by GSL solutions.

Secretary-manager of the club, John Holt, told the Times last week he had been extremely happy with the response from members with more than 60 people signing up within the first 24 hours.

The club was hoping to have 300 people signed up by the close of business yesterday (Tuesday).

Mr Holt described acceptance of the card as "fantastic".

He said advertising of Mollymook Plus had created a significant amount of intrigue amongst members - as well as staff.

He is hoping to sign up to as many as 1000 members to the new program.

Up until now, club members could use their reward points to make in-house purchases at the bar and bistro.

The Plus Card enables them to use their reward points to pay bills or go shopping - or to spend them however they see fit.

While cardholders can add their own funds to the card for an additional spend, they are unable to use the card to withdraw cash due to Gaming and Racing legislation.

It is used in a similar way as a debit card and doesn’t accumulate any debt. There are no interest charges, no credit checks and it is not linked to a member’s personal bank account.

Cardholders can use a kiosk at the golf club to check their balance.

The director of GSL Solutions, Danielle Rayner, was in Mollymook last week to help oversee the launch of the new rewards program.

The GSL Solutions loyalty program was introduced two years ago and has now been taken up by nine clubs across the state from Albury in the south to Seagulls at Tweed Heads in the north.

It has already been introduced successfully at clubs in Batemans Bay and Wollongong.

Ms Rayner said the program had the potential to transform the relationship between the Mollymook Golf Club and its membership.

She said it represented a huge shift from simply being able to offer members vouchers for in-house use and had resulted in a 'dramatic' increase in visitation at other clubs that had taken the GSL Solution program on board.

Mr Holt said the club had been looking at the rewards program for the past six months and believes it represents a good long-term investment.

Besides rewarding the club's current members he believes it will also have the potential to attract new members.

Golf club staff will be manning a special desk over the next couple of weeks to answer any questions members may have about Mollymook Plus.
