‘Organ donors’ enjoy party

28 Oct, 2009 12:47 PM
“EVEN if we had specially made the weather for the day, I don’t think it could have been any better,” Max Atkins said reflecting on Saturday’s garden party.

The Kendall Dale pipe organ fundraiser held on Saturday afternooon has been hailed a great success and committee member Max was quick with his praise of the event.

“It went absolutely famously,” he said.

“It all ran wonderfully well from every aspect and I haven’t heard anything but praise for the event.”

Held at the historic Kendall Dale property in Yatte Yattah the garden party was planned to help fund the restoration of the 100-year-old pipe organ at St Peter and St Paul’s Church in Milton.

More than $7500 was added to the fund through the party, which ran from 3pm to 6pm on Saturday and included live entertainment and skill demonstrations.

The afternoon saw four separate afternoon teas served by the Shoalhaven Anglican School and the Uniting, Baptist and Anglican Churches, musicians performing throughout the grounds, demonstrations of traditional crafts including spinning and log cutting and historic displays.

One of the highlights was put on by Luke Thomas and his Cobb and Co show and another was the display of vintage cars by the Milton Ulladulla Vintage and Classic Car Club.

Special guest, well known Solar Sailor CEO Robert Dane, opened the event with a humorous speech.

“Mr Dane gave the crowd a big laugh when he commented “everyone here is an organ donor,” and used medical analogies in his address,” Max said.

“Mr Dane’s opening was well received and I think he had a great time at the event.”

Max said Kendall Dale was the perfect place to host the fundraiser with guests taking the chance to check out the historic property.

“People spent time wandering around the grounds and admiring the property,” he said.

“Many were interested in some of the trees on the property that are more than 150 years old.”

The success of the event could be attributed to a few things, Max said.

“The event helped to cement the sense of community by bringing local groups together,” he said.

“It was a success because it was very entertaining, it highlighted the history of the region, it bought the churches together, which was inspiring, and it was a great fundraiser.”

Committee members would like to extend their thanks to everyone who helped to make the day a success including those who helped with the afternoon tea, put on demonstrations and entertained the audience and a thank you to everyone who came along in support.

“There were so many people who were part of the event and they all helped to make it such a great success,” Max said.

“All together it all worked out as well as it possibly could.”
