Princess crowned Saturday

06 Apr, 2011 12:01 PM
THE countdown is on to the Blessing of the Fleet Ball.

Only days away, Blessing of the Fleet entrants will spend the next few days anxiously perfecting their dance moves, finishing their outfits and planning their hair and makeup for the annual event.

To be held at the Ulladulla Civic Centre this Saturday (April 9) the ball will be a night of dinner and dancing, culminating in the announcement of the 2011 Blessing of the Fleet Princess.

Organiser Alison Tyquin said the dances and presentation have all come together at the last few rehearsals.

"We have had a few intense practices to get it to all come together," Mrs Tyquin said.

"They are all so excited to see that it is all coming together.

"Last year's princess and her partner, Jasmine and Beau, are on hand to help out and have been great in helping the entrants to learn the dances.

"It is really great to see how the kids start in such a raw state in boardies and thongs and by the end they are so polished and mature.

"It is going to be a wonderful evening - they really are a great group of kids."

The annual Blessing of the Fleet Ball is one of the year's premier events and tickets are now on sale to the general public.

Kicking off at 6.30pm for a 7pm start, the evening will include a three-course dinner and dancing with live entertainment throughout the night and bar service available.

The highlight of the evening will be the crowning of the 2011 Princess of the Fleet.

Organisers have had a great response from local girls, with 28 signed up for Saturday's ball partnered with a group of dashing local lads.

The smaller group of entrants for the 2011 ball has allowed organisers to offer tickets to the public to attend the annual event.

"We would love to sell more tickets to the ball and give everyone the chance to come along and join the fun," Mrs Tyquin said.

"There are still plenty of tickets available for purchase."

Tickets are $65 each and are available at the Ulladulla Civic Centre or through Coastal Curtains in the Plaza, Ulladulla.

Phone 4455 5877 to reserve your tickets.

The ball is the first event as part of the Blessing of the Fleet festival organised by the Rotary Club of Milton Ulladulla.

The Blessing of the Fleet Princess will lead entrants in the annual Blessing of the Fleet parade to be held on Easter Sunday.
