Ulladulla's little known Brodie Park could become an artistic and geological hub if a grant application is successful.
Shoalhaven City Council last week adopted a Notice of Motion by Councillor Amanda Findley calling for support for a Regional Arts Board grant application to upgrade the small park on Ulladulla's north head.
Cr Findley called for council to support the proposal and offer in-kind landscaping assistance.
She also requested funding be considered in the 2010/11 budget to upgrade the park which is home to a huge stone and viewing shelter commemorating the opening of Ulladulla's stone break wall.
Stone would be a feature of the upgrade, Cr Findley said, as part of a 'Geological Walk Through Time'.
"My vision is an Aboriginal serpent winding through the park with rocks from the local area, including Ulladulla Mudstone, sandstone and Milton Monzonite, representing different geological moments in time.
"There would be a bit of information, backed up by brochures from the tourist centre," she said.
Cr Findley said the walk would reflect the fossil walk proposed for the opposite side of the harbour.
"It would be a unique tourist attraction further highlighting our beautiful harbour."
The geological walk through time is additional to plans already being drawn up for a redesign of the park to incorporate sculptures by local artists.
State grants of up to $20,000 are on offer and Cr Findley said she would like to see council matching any funding on a dollar for dollar basis.
"Staff at Regional Arts have been contacted and they have given the project the green light.
"They like the combination of geology and an arts project."
