SENSATIONAL!

THE Milton Show committee will be celebrating another successful show this week with attendance at a record high.

Milton Show secretary told the Times yesterday that the 2009 show had set a record level for attendance but that the 2010 show had managed to top that again.

“It all went very well,” Mick said.

“Our gate receipts were up on last year and last year was a record so we must have beaten that.

“All in all it was a very successful show and we are very happy with it.”

On behalf of the committee, Mick reported that pavilion organisers were pleased with the number and the quality of the entries into the pavilion.

“I think the rain over the past few weeks gave everyone’s gardens a boost right before the show,” he said.

“Walking in to the pavilion you could smell the fresh flowers – which was lovely.

“All the fresh produce was of a high standard.”

While the rain fell during the lead up to the show, there was only small showers on Friday and a hot clear day for Saturday.

“The weather was kind to us this year,” Mick said.

“The rain we did have came when the Battle of the Bands was on and that was undercover so it didn’t impact the running of the show.”

Highlight across the two days included old favourites like the animal nursery, pet show and woodchop.

“The Scottish Pipe and Drum Band was well received as was the Milton Town Band,” Mick said.

“We had a number of people approach the secretary’s office during the show to comment on how much they enjoyed Griego the Roving Magicians.

“We promoted the woodchopping in the lead up to the event and were happy to see good crowds turn ut to watch the chop.

“Having Kevin Mathie there to open the show was especially fitting.

“Kevin runs the Sydney woodchopping and is a local so we were happy to have him at the show.”

While entry was down for the horse and cattle competitions, Mick reported great feedback from the judges.

“The judges all commented on the high standard of the entries for this year’s show across all the competitions,” Mick said.

And with two days of activities, the committee reported a great response from the crowd.

“The crowd really got into the show spirit,” Mick said.

“We had very few problems – people were well behaved.

“A great security team and police presence made sure it was a safe and enjoyable environment.”

As always it was a great weekend.

Admission prices seemed a little bit steep, but the show was once again enjoyable.

Thank god it didn't rain all weekend and I could enjoy the time with my grand kids.
