THE SADDEST OF FAREWELLS

27 Jan, 2010 01:02 PM
LOCAL residents will today (Wednesday) have the heartbreaking task of farewelling three members of the same family.

Ulladulla sisters Jordan, 13 and Makeely Bridge, 11, were killed on December 28 when a fuel tanker swerved onto the wrong side of the road at Termeil, south of Ulladulla.

Their father, 47-year-old David Bridge, was airlifted from the scene with burns to more than 80 per cent of his body but lost his brave fight for life several days later.

The girls' mother, 40-year-old Debbie Bridge, was also lifted from the scene with serious burns and continues her fight for life in a Sydney hospital.

A funeral service for the three members of the Bridge family will be held at the Mollymook Surf Club today (Wednesday) commencing at 11am.

It will be followed by a private cremation.

There will be a memory box at the surf club for those people wanting to share their thoughts of David, Jordan and Makeely with Mrs Bridge.

A member of the family this week thanked the local community for its support following the Termeil tragedy describing it as "typical Ulladulla".

Meanwhile a second bank account has been opened for those people wanting to donate to the Debbie Bridge Appeal.

Second account opened as part of appeal

A SECOND bank account has been opened for those people wanting to donate money to the Debbie Bridge Appeal.

Mrs Bridge, of Ulladulla, is still fighting for her life in hospital after suffering burns to more than 80 per cent of her body in an horrific accident at Termeil just after Christmas.

Her daughters Jordan and Makeely were both killed in the crash.

Her husband David was airlifted to Sydney, also suffering burns to more than 80 per cent of his body, but lost his fight for life several days later.

A funeral service for the three will be held at the Mollymook Surf Club today (Wednesday).

As reported recently in the Times, friends of the Bridge family are still coming to terms with the deaths of David, Jordan and Makeely but are keen to do whatever they can to assist Debbie.

They started the Debbie Bridge Appeal only after speaking with members of her family.

"She is currently undergoing all the possible treatment available and continues to give us all hope everyday and reminds us of her courageous spirit," they said in a statement.

"Anyone who knows Deb is aware of her never give in attitude and her struggle will continue for a long period of time and we would like the community to pledge their support by donating a contribution to aid her in any way possible for her future rehabilitation."

Those people wanting to donate to the Debbie Bridge Appeal can do so at the Commonwealth Bank using account number 062646 10220405.

An account has now also been opened at the Milton and Districts Community Bank (Bendigo Bank).

The funds are being managed by The Salvation Army and all donations are tax deductible.

Cash donations can be left at any branch of the Bendigo Bank.

People simply need to mention the Bridge Family Appeal.

Credit card donations can be made over the Internet at www.bendigobank.com.au/foundation /bridgefamily

Cheques can be sent to The Bridge Family Appeal, Milton and Districts Community Bank, 83 Princes Highway, Milton.

Donors are reminded to write their name and address on the back of the cheque so they can be sent a tax deductibility receipt.
