LOCAL winemakers will gather in Ulladulla this weekend for the 2009 South Coast Wine Show presentation dinner.
The presentation dinner is being held at The Vineyard Kitchen, Cupitt's Winery, on Saturday night. It is already fully booked out.
Highlights of the night will include the announcement of best red, best white and best wine in this year's show.
There were more than 140 wines entered in this year's show with approximately half of them considered by the judges to be worthy of a medal.
The whites were considered to be extremely strong this year with many people tipping a Semillon to take out 'Best of Wine of Show'.
Chief judge David Morris told the Times last month that the Semillon class had been a pleasure judge and that some of the entries been world standard.
While the whites collected more medals at this year's Mr Morris added that the standard of reds being produced locally continued to improve.
Judging for this year's wine show took place at the CWA hall in Milton on Friday, January 23 and was followed by tasting sessions for exhibitors and members of the public at Milton Showground.
While the number of entries in this year was on par with last year - as was the number of medals awarded - Mr Morris, an internationally respected wine judge, he said the standard was actually better.
He said many of the entries were "good, solid, commercial wines" and that even the ones that missed out medals were sound and well-made.
Don't miss next week's edition of the Times for photos from Saturday's presentation dinner and for details on all of this year's major winners.
