Conditions good enough to satisfy surfing fraternity

G'DAY world.

I hope this week's column finds you singing a happy tune and smiling for another Weekly Wash, proudly brought to you by AKWA Surf, keeping you informed with all the happenings in the surf locally and what has been shaking on the pro tour.

Well how do we describe the week that just passed?

Maybe like a pair of faithful old jeans, nothing too flashy but so comfortable it keeps dragging you back time and time again, and this pretty much sums up this week's surf - nothing mind blowing but plenty of waves to keep you comfortable.

With the favourable conditions and water still being extremely toasty plenty of punters flocked to our local breaks for a break.

Sam Walklate dominated the waves like a ring can dominate a Hobbit.

Sam - who has just been accepted in the Lord of the Rings musical playing a role as the ring - is having a quick break at home before heading to Soho London for the tour.

Matt Gillies decided to be adventurist and take on the world's third most bumpy road on Sunday to surf Point North East and to gobble up some fun lefts off the point.

Matty and Jarrah Orphin decided to take up the challenge and were well rewarded for their effort with Matty scoring the wave of the day and ripping the bag out of it so hard he was later arrested for destruction of the Point North East surf.

The annual Dunno and Kegs event was held on Saturday and was very well looked after, maybe from above?

Where a hideous south wind and rain squalls were predicted a gorgeous day decided to rain down upon them instead of the first forecast.

With another great turn out and everyone in a fantastic mood the event proved to be a hit.

The contest was eventually won by Paul Morgan.

Big thanks to Nige, Critter and Gail for running another sweet comp for the community and hope more funds were raised so we will see an opening soon for the centre.

We are about to bid a fond farewell to popular Yankee doodle Greg Hunt also known as the spin doctor, who will be heading off back to his home the land of the septic tank (America) in the upcoming weeks to live.

The golfie crew wish Greg all the best but all the guys are excited to finally get some waves now Greg has headed off.

Did anyone catch the Quiky Pro?

The surfing was so good and definitely the benchmark to where surfing is at the moment which is plain old crazy.

If you missed the action it was in Queensland and Taj Burrow took out the event over Jordy Smith in rippable two-to-three foot waves at Snapper Rocks.

The opening event of then 2010 ASP World Tour season, the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast started the year off with a bang, bringing the greatest assemblage of surfing talent in history to one of the most iconic pointbreaks in the world, and the world's best surfers shattered high-performance barriers once again.

"I'm so so happy right now - it's the best feeling on Earth!" Burrow said.

"It's unreal.

"I have a good group of friends with me and my parents are here supporting me.

"To have everyone cheering me on in the final is really special."

This was three in a row for Taj and the smile was tattooed across his face.

Due to the Dunno and Kegs event last weekend Ulladulla Boardriders postponed their monthly contest but will go ahead this Sunday, March 14.

For any new members that may be interested in joining we meet at Rennie's Beach at 7.30am where you can register or alternatively you can come up to either AKWA Surf or Totally Board for entry forms.

All surfers must register before they surf in the contest.

Hope to see you down there.

Well there we go hombres for another splash at the Weekly Wash and if anyone would like to add anything either call into AKWA surf or buzz us on 4454 5222 or email me kurt@akwasurf.com.au

Till next week stay wet.

I know Ulladulla is a surfing town and it's great to see someone having a go, but your writer needs to be sacked.

I hope your not paying the writer too much, because all his articles seem to be nonsense rambling, name dropping and longwinded descriptive similes which are about as intelligent as a 6th form student.

It seems each week, these articles are getting worse and worse.

A writter shouldn't be about how many times he can write his business name and e-mail address.

Or what he has donated this week.

If you have to thank yourself for something good you've done, obviously no one cares.

I suggest your editor takes a knife to this article and cuts away the fat, before we all die of heart disease!
