First Grade
EX-SERVICEMEN comfortably took first innings points against Ulladulla United at Hayden Drexel Oval, but veteran Terry Dorrell prevented any chance of an outright result.
Ex-Servicemen 7/259 dec. d Ulladulla United 133 and 5/168
Resuming at 2/98 and anxious to pass United's 133, Ex-Servicemen lost Graham Phillis just short of that target.
He had hit three boundaries in 23 and had helped add 53 when he edged to keeper Scott Bowman from the bowling of Greg Sheedy.
Shane Halliday saw the lead accomplished before Sheedy had him caught by Dorrell, his 56 having included four fours and three sixes.
Simon Blizzard joined Warren Ganderton and they pressed home the advantage with a partnership of 73 from 11 overs.
It ended when Blizzard (33 with four fours and one six) failed to beat a return from Jason Linke.
Ganderton took his score to 43 with four fours a six, before he was trapped lbw by Michael Ylias.
Matt Ganderton started with a boundary, but was then bowled by Ylias.
Trevor Thomason showed form in reaching 25 with three fours and a six, enabling skipper Daniel Gleeson to declare at 7/259 after 46 overs.
Sheedy and Ylias each took two wickets.
United lost an early wicket in its second innings, when Douglas Chisholm (2) was caught by keeper Blizzard off Shane Phillis.
Robert Cooke's 16 came in boundaries, but the knock ended when he was bowled by Dean Jones.
Dorrell was then well established, and he combined well with Linke (12) who was caught by Gleeson off Brady Spelta.
After going past the half-century, Dorrell lost Scott King (14) who was caught by Graham Phillis off Jones, after a 52-run partnership.
Dorrell had cracked 14 boundaries in 81 when in a rare bowling spell, Gleeson had him caught by Ganderton.
An unbroken partnership between Bowman (26) and Ylias (9) took United to 5/168 and a third batting point.
Jones took 2/18 to be the most successful bowler.
