Milton Pony Club
On Thursday, January 19, four riders from Milton Pony Club - Lilly Hatwell, Hayley Perrin and Caitlin and Emily Hancock - travelled to Orange, to compete in the State Dressage Championships, as part of the Zone 14 team.
Upon arrival, the grounds were flooding up to the top of the tyres of the cars but luckily, within 20 minutes, the water had all subsided, which left a very wet and muddy grounds, to set up camp on.
Friday entailed all the horses getting prepared for the vet and fitness checks and for the judging of the best presented zone.
All horses easily passed the vet checks and fitness checks and looked very immaculate for presentation.
Saturday began the start of the Dressage test with Lilly doing the 1D, Hayley the 3A, Caitlin the 2A and Emily also doing the 2A.
Caitlin and Emily had to ride through thunder and lightning and strong winds for their first test, and all riders were happy with how their tests went though.
Sunday was the last day of competition, with everyone completing their final test in windy conditions, Caitlin the 1D, Lilly the 2A, Hayley the 3C and Emily the 2C. All the tests ridden over the two days were up to a very high standard and were an amazing display of how practice does pay off.
The girls all placed very well, considering in each age group there was between 60-70 riders.
The girls were all amazing representatives of not just themselves, but the pony club and our zone, as well as enjoying themselves immensely.
All the girls wish to express their appreciation of the efforts of Marion Hatwell, both in the training in the many weeks prior to the competition, as well as her support throughout the competition.
Mollymook Pony Club
With the school year starting back this week, we also have the return of pony club this Sunday, February 5.
New members are most welcome and, along with current members, can register any time from 8.30am.
Membership forms and fees must be completed prior to riding.
Gear check for all riders is at 9.30am.
New and current riders are reminded that they need to wear AS3838 approved riding helmets and riding boots at rallies.
The clubs website www.mollymook.pcansw.org.au has been updated to include a draft calendar for term one, as well as other information, including wet weather notifications.
There is also a rally next Sunday, February 12, where riders will be graded in their Riding and Jumping Grades.
This is important for riders who are wanting to compete at any upcoming pony club events.
Last weekend the club had two riders – Madalyn Woods and Ruby Jones – compete at The Area One Triathlon at Camden.
This was the first time a triathlon event has been held for pony club and the event attracted over 200 competitors.
The riders had to compete in the three phases of the event, which included running, swimming and jumping.
Both girls competed in D Grade height in Jumping, which included both Showjumping and Cross Country obstacles.
Madalyn competed in the Under 9 section, where she had to run 750 metres and swim 50 metres and Ruby in the Under 11 age group had to run 1km and swim 75 metres. Both girls did well in all three phases, with clear rounds in the jumping.
They got second in the swimming phase and fourth in the running phase in their individual age groups.
Area One Pony Club has not tallied the results, as yet, and overall scores are not yet available.
The girls said that they had lots of fun at the event and hope there are more opportunities to compete at similar events.
