LAKE Conjola's Ian Smith has claimed a slice of history, becoming the first ever Bowls NSW Rookies Singles Champion, at Raymond Terrace on October 3.
To qualify for this tournament Ian won the Zone 7 District event held in Narooma.
Ian had to play three rounds, in wet conditions under cover, against other Zone players and after winning two of the three rounds he qualified for the semi finals with a for and against of 49-40.
In the semi-final Ian defeated the Zone 2 champion, Brad Clark from Wallsend, building a lead to take the Round 17-10.
In the grand final, late on Saturday afternoon, Ian had to take on Paul Davies from Commercial Albury from Zone 8.
Davies' calm approach and consistency had him as the crowd favourite.
But by playing the bowls that mattered when they mattered, edging him ahead throughout the game, Ian closed out the game winning with a fantastic scoreline of 17-9.
Ian was presented with a medal and prize money of $400.
He also received a Lawnmaster cap and shirt and a Lawnmaster bowls bag.
Well Done Ian!
All your girls and all the bowlers at Lake Conjola Bowling Club are all very, very proud of you!
