THE popularity of the V8 Supercars has conquered another field with three time touring car champion Craig Lowndes zooming onto the small screen in his debut children's TV performance.
The V8 legend will lend his iconic Aussie voice to the role of V8 Supercar world champion, Conrod, in the award winning pre-school animation, Roary the Racing Car.
Conrod is a big throaty new Aussie V8 named after the famous straight at the Bathurst race track where Lowndes found fame.
Lowndes' passion for motor racing, loveable personality and laid-back Australian style has injected Conrod with his authentic character.
Conrod is a rough, tough but friendly Aussie V8 who just keeps going, a knack for creating a mood of competition with the other cars as well as a romantic mood with the ladies, who seem to overheat every time he comes to town!
Conrod will be seen in over 100 countries around the world, giving our Lowndesy international stardom.
Lowndes' debut will screen as part of an exclusive broadcast deal with Chapman Entertainment in the UK and ABC TV.
Roary the Racing Car also features the voice of Sir Stirling Moss as narrator.
Lowndes is not the only V8 Supercar star to hit the silver screen with three of the sports finest Paul 'The Dude' Morris, Greg Murphy and Gary Rogers starring in a big budget production.
This scribe is waiting on a final release of the title with the producers narrowing it down to 'The Big, the Bad and the Ugly' or 'The Three Stooges hit Bathurst'.
SHOWROOM ENDURANCE
Australian movie star Eric Bana heads the list of entries for the Bathurst 12 Hour this month with a classy 47 car field entered for the showroom endurance race at Mount Panorama.
Twelve manufacturers and 27 different models or variants will line up on the grid Sunday morning at 6.30am on February 14 with 12 Hour promoter James O'Brien confident of an exciting race.
"We are pleased with the numbers, it's a quality field and we expect a healthy crowd with lots of atmosphere," said O'Brien.
"We have a bumper support category program plus plenty of off track entertainment so it will be a fantastic weekend.
"Given the well documented economic woes, to field 47 entries is a pleasant surprise and testament to the appeal of the event."
Alfa Romeo, BMW, Ford, Holden, Honda, Lotus, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Renault, Subaru and Toyota will tough out the showroom showdown, with outright honours likely to be settled between the Evo, Impreza, Typhoon, GTS and the new Shelby Mustang GT500.
BLOWN AWAY
V8 Supercar drivers Jamie Whincup, Will Davison, Mark Winterbottom and Paul Dumbrell have been 'blown away' during a lightning tour of Abu Dhabi and the Yas Marina Circuit where the Championship opens the 2010 season this month.
The four split their pre-season preparation to make the trip on Etihad Airways for the promotional component prior to the event with four days of water sports, track days, cultural visits, mixing it with Australian delegates and expatriates - topped off by a ride in a Minardi Formula One two-seater.
It also gave them all a sneak peak at what is to come next month at the billion dollar circuit which they believe will surprise the entire V8 Supercar field.
