Revived Moet Cup breaks all the records

04 Nov, 2009 12:54 PM
THE Moet Cup Women's Golf Classic has broken all records in the year of its revival.

Around 80 women, mostly locals, hit off at the Hilltop Golf Course on the day - more than twice the number than in previous years.

The field took twice as long to complete their round as you would normally take.

There were more than 130 present at the Ex-Servo's for dinner, again twice as many as in previous Moet days.

But the biggest record broken was the amount of money raised by this community on that day - just short of $10,000!

What a great effort for a relatively small group of people and congratulations all of you!

The winners of the Four-ball ambrose event by a short nose, with a nett score 30 were Veronica Johnson and her team - Kerry Hozack, Pam Smith and Melanie Louth. VJ led the girls - all non-golfers aside from herself - to a great victory.

Well done VJ.

Runners-up with a nett score of 30.1 - how close can you get to winning - were Kim Powell, Marguerite Roberts, Jenny Moore and Sarah Gabrielle.

Big congratulations go to Kim, who not only led her team of non-golfers into second place, but also took out the longest drive and nearest the pin on the 9th.

However, a local wildcard named Sylvia Stone surprised herself when she won the nearest the pin on the 5th hole.

It was Sylvia's first time in a golfing competition and we are inclined to think she may soon be up there on Tuesday mornings swinging with the best of them! Well done to all the golfing girls for maintaining the spirit of the day (bubbly helped) and not letting the score get in the way of a really fun day.

To our major and minor sponsors - way too many to name but you know who you are - to our brave golfers and the big hearted local community with deep pockets - a really big thankyou.

The amount of money raised reflects your generosity.

It is noteworthy to mention that over 60 business houses and private individuals donated prizes, money and services on the day.

Special thanks to thank Peter Cosgrove from Bannisters for his amazing contribution to our major raffle - two nights in an executive suite

with all the trimmings and trappings.

It was won by one of the women golfers who participated on the day, Gemma Pryde.

Our two chosen charities will receive cheques in the coming week.

So girls, in preparation for the next big Moet, don't pack away your golf clubs - get some lessons, get a team together and start practising.
