G'DAY world.
I hope this week's column finds you bouncing of the walls with anticipation for another Weekly Wash, proudly brought to you by AKWA Surf and keeping you informed with all the happenings in the surf locally and what has been shaking on the pro tour
Well I guess the major thing we noticed this week in our surfing circles was the quick demise of the beautiful waves which kept everyone's attention last week and the constant rain turning our streets Venice-like, only without the gondolas and drunken walruses.
But as I write another swell has just hit our shores reaching heights of 8ft plus on the open faces.
Mark Galton, who is well known for his hot glass studio, blew a little more than glass last week after he blew a few waves apart on a really fun bank at Burrill Lake.
The boys have been trying to keep the bank under the radar for a while now but with the boardriders holding their first comp there the cat has definitely been let out of the bag.
With the recent swells and guys pushing their limits on their craft it was very interesting to see how some boards survive or not survive the conditions, where most boards either snap or crease under the duress.
I did come across one of the most oddly damaged boards I have seen in a long time belonging to Ian 'EO' Harding.
EO's board didn't survive the carnage and looked like three full-grown elephants had been trying to crump dance on it, such was the bizarre creasing of his stick.
As we shoot up the coast to North Stradbroke Island in Queensland we found that Mitch Crews claimed the Association of Surfing Professionals' Grade-5 Oakley Pro Junior in a dominating fashion ahead of Narrabeen's Davey Cathels.
Held in clean three-foot waves at Main Beach on Queensland's North Stradbroke Island, Crews defeated Cathels in the final of the prestigious professional junior event, registering a combined two-wave total of 16.30 points (out of a possible 20) to Cathels' 13.00.
"The monkey is finally off my back," Crews said.
"I won a Pro Junior about three years ago as a grommet and have been struggling to get over that final hurdle again for ages, so I'm just super stoked.
"This year had been so frustrating, because in the first three events of the series I've finished runner-up twice and made a semi-final, so to finally win one ... I'm just over the moon."
Sunday was the first event of the year for Ulladulla Boardriders and despite the rain pouring all day the turn up was phenomenal, with quite a lot of new and old heads ugly and good returning to the club.
It is a great indication that this year will be bigger than we have ever had.
For any new members wanting to join you can come up to either Totally Board or AKWA Surf to pick up a registration form or down load a copy off www.akwasurf.com.au
This needs to be filled out before the next event.
There will be a big day of surf this Saturday at Molly reef for AKWA Surf's John Morgan single fin fundraiser.

Spectators are also encouraged to dig out their 70s gear.
Around 80 of the local region's surfers will be lining up.
