ULLADULLA Public School has finished third in the N.S.W. PSSA Boys Touch Football Knockout.
The Ulladulla team, who are the South Coast champions, travelled to Sydney to play in the N.S.W PSSA Knockout semi-finals last Monday, November 9.
Eight boys' teams and eight girls' teams, all regional champions, travelled to Rooty Hill Touch Fields, to play in oppressive heat.
Most of the Ulladulla team spent Sunday night in Sydney, many at Penrith, as it was an early start on Monday morning.
The first game was against last year's state champions, South Wagga Public School.
With cloud cover, organised defence and constant communication, Ulladulla kept with South Wagga and gradually wore them down, winning 6-4.
This win was an amazing team effort and put Ulladulla in the top four teams in NSW.
Chad Elkins and Liam Ryan scored two tries each, James Hayman scored a try and Matt Harvey took an amazing intercept to run the length of the field to score.
The clouds disappeared and the mercury soared.
Ulladulla now had to play Shalvey Public School from Western Sydney, for a place in the final. Ulladulla took the lead with a couple of minutes to go, however Shalvey was good enough to score the winning try in the last minute.
The boys were disappointed, but noble in defeat.
The try scorers were James Hayman (1), Ben Munyard (1), Jack Murchie (2) and Nathan Browne (2).
The team members were Ben Munyard, Chad Elkins, James Hayman (captain), Blake Wade, Max Zappas, Tyson Davies, Zane Wilson, Jack Murchie (vice captain) , Liam Ryan, Mathew Harvey, Nathan Browne and Jessie Smith.
Coach Peter Elwin expressed his appreciation to all the parents who supported the boys throughout their campaign.
"It was a huge effort to go to Sydney, but well worth it," he said.
"Thanks to Bob and Al for your help up there.
"Finally I'd like to thank the boys for training so hard and always playing as a team, which is what touch football is all about."
