Right formula for Daniel’s success

15 Oct, 2008 12:03 PM
ULLADULLA race driver Daniel Lewis spent the weekend at Bathurst celebrating his successful first season in the Formula Ford NSW Motor Racing Championships while building contacts for his next year.

Daniel managed impressive results, he finished fourth outright for the series and second in the Rookie of the Year standings after coming in the top five of the final round at Eastern Creek.

The 24-year-old was delighted with his efforts in his debut season, especially his Rookie of the Year standing.

“I am pretty pleased with how the year went,” he said.

“Coming in second in the Rookie of the Year was great, especially as the first place winner had previous racing experience in another car series.

“I think I’ve learnt from the year and hope to do even better in the next series.”

Daniel’s results in the competition are impressive, with the young driver narrowly missing the third place spot in the series, with only a few points separating him.

“We had some trouble with a few rounds and missed the points, which didn’t help overall,” he said.

Daniel bought a family love of cars and more than 12 years experience racing go-karts with him to the championships after he realised he dreamed of racing in the Formula Fords this year.

After purchasing a car in Melbourne that had been campaigned by James Moffat and Lucas Dumbrell and with some great support from the local area, Daniel got his start.

“Racing Formula Fords is something I have wanted to do for years,” he said.

“It’s been fantastic.”

Spending the weekend at Bathurst, Daniel hoped to build some further contacts in the industry.

“I am looking forward to meeting with a few people at Bathurst,” he said.

“The more support I can get for next year, the better.”

Daniel has been overwhelmed by the support shown in the Ulladulla community.

“I have had so many people come up and question how I went in the series,” he said.

“I thought it was about time to contact the Times so I can let everyone know.”

Daniel has had great support from many in the community and would like to thank all those who helped for their efforts.

“There is support out there for people interested in getting into motor sports,” he said.

“I have been working with Brad Cole, Ernie Olrich, my dad Russell and Don Holland racing to prepare for each race.

“I also had great support from Alan Cooper, who is a great help with everything I do.”
