The community bus departed with 20 members on board for the two hour trip to the Corbett Gardens.
Corbett Gardens was constructed in 1911, before that it was called Denmeads Paddoc’ and described as a tip for old tins and dead cats.
Corbett Gardens now hosts one of Australia’s oldest and best floral festivals, Tulip Time.
The festival continues to grow as the region’s largest event. Corbett Gardens is mass-planted with more than 75,000 tulips, across 40 varieties and 15,000 annuals.
The weather was perfect for the viewing and photographing of the display beds.
The flowers were at their best after a slow start to blooming due to the recent colder than usual temperatures.
Club members were free to wander the floral displays at their leisure or enjoy the local food and drinks on site. Some even did some shopping at the festival stalls and wandered into “down-town” Bowral.
After three plus hours all members boarded the bus for the trip back to Ulladulla.
At a brief rest stop at Kangaroo Valley, John the bus driver told the passengers the bus had a flat back tyre. It was necessary to take a detour off the highway at Nowra to get the tyre changed.
Not a planned side-trip, but essential for the safety of all.
Visitors are welcome at the club’s monthly meetings at the Milton Ulladulla ExServos Club on the second Friday of the month starting at 9.45am.
