The brainchild of Gerry Halliday and Jann Wayland, the Lions Pre-loved Book Shop in Ulladulla’s Bellbrook Arcade will help raise funds for community projects in the area and also connect members with the public.
The venture follows the success of the Sussex Inlet Lions second hand book store which has been successfully selling books for a number of years.
Mrs Wayland said the Sussex members provided thousands of books for the Ulladulla shop, while local business Civic Video provided used shelving for the outlet.
She said hundreds of book varieties would be available for purchase from 50 cents to $6.
“We’ve got everything from cooking and gardening to biographies, fiction, non-fiction and educational,” she added.
“There’s something for everyone, at an affordable price.”
Mr Halliday said the community and local businesses had thrown their support behind the project and he hoped anyone with good quality, pre-loved books would donate them to the Lions Club for sale.
“The support we have received so far has been staggering,” he said.
The shop will be open this weekend and will then be open weekdays from 9.30am until 4.30pm and Saturday mornings.
Mrs Wayland said the outlet provided a project for older Lions.
“It’s not as much hard work as working in the donut van or putting up Santas,” she said.
“We will also have information about other Lions community projects available, so people can pop in anytime and chat with our members.”
