Mollymook Beach Men’s
Saturday, September 14
It was a big day for Mollymook Beach B.C, the weather man however could have sent the much needed rain a day later.
To help celebrate the number 5 pennants district win and official opening of the new green, district representatives including president Max Young , women’s district president Dorothy Sullivan, representatives of SCWDBA and regional representative, Meg McClure attended.
Secretary manager Alan Shapley introduced the managing director of Sports Technology International who gave an interesting overview of the new green.
Most interesting is the fact that the previous green was installed by his company and all the foundation put down 10 years ago for it was still sound today.
To prove the point on drainage the heavens open during the morning and play was possible soon after.
He also outlined the advantages of the poyethylene composition of the new green and the improved maintenance now available, supported by improved knowledge and equipment nowadays.
The cutting of the ribbon to officially open the new green was carried out by vice president Tony Clarke in the absence of president Tony Hutchins due to knee surgery and a line-up of all the club's presidents, inside where it was dry.
Additionally the ladies were thanked for their umpiring efforts for the pennants season enabling key male umpires to play.
The pennants side and the flag were herded outside into the wet for the obligatory photo shoot.
Unfortunately as mentioned above Tony Hutchins was unavailable as were two other key members of the side Gary McGuire and Brad Patterson.
All attendees enjoyed the luncheon and the late roll-up when the rain stopped.
Thanks are in order for the events committee organisers and the staff, particularly in Tanya's Bistro.
Championships
The final of the major triples was postponed due to the rain.
The second round of the major/minor pairs was played Monday, September 9.
Results were: Kerry and Dennis Jones def. Gordon Wood and Barry Smith in a tie-break; Tony Clarke and Ken Evetts def. Ron Wynter, Kerry Hobday in two sets; Wayne Drury, Jack Field with a win and a draw defeated David Adamson and John Moy and probably the toughest match of the day with two drawn sets was Kev Edmunds and Ray Croot who defeated Sid Brand and your scribe in the tie-break (sob!)
Social Triples Wednesday, September 11
Visitors Ian Beckhouse from Malua Bay and David White (M/U) were welcomed and joined fifty Mollymookians on the greens.
The grass was like lightning, the synthetic pace is slowly increasing and will continue to do so especially as it will receive a full post-installation "service" in about a week.
Lucky rink winners on the day were Russ Hinchcliffe, Barry Ayshford and Doug Broad with a 24/15 win over Craig Lees, Peter Lenton and Kevin Ross.
Mixed Pairs Jackpot - Friday, September 13
Numbers were down, only 12 bowlers showed up.
Maybe no-one wanted to be the 13th bowler?
Max Lee and Roy Sinclair were lucky however taking the KENO voucher with a +8 win over Bina and Ted Fraser.
Reminders: Today is the men’s club AGM 10am followed by barbecue and nominated triples jackpot.
Minor singles championship commences this Saturday, markers required please.
And of course, the final of the major triples should be a great game. Cheers to all!
Mollymook Beach Roadrunners
The Golden Boot, an annual contest between the Roadrunners and the Staff/Directors and their ring-ins, has been played out again with another resounding win to the Roadrunners by the single shot, 132 – 131.
Forty two bowlers put their reputations on the line and the Roadrunners were victorious again.
Seven games of triples were played with the following results.
Brian and Wendy Lambert and Trish Moy 30 outplayed Leon and Elaine Lill and John Moy 18.
Andy, Tony Annetts and Bina Fraser 30 trounced Kevin Milne, David Adamson and Bob Brooks 18.
Ken Evetts, Doug Broad and Brian Church 28 outlasted Alan Hayman, Robin Oke and Glenn Dickson 19.
Calvin and Ros Hackett and Craig Lees 16 just overcame the Manning Clan of Col, Wayne and June 13.
Bill Neal with Brad and Tony Field 23 defeated Bill Easter, Dennis Jones and Lyn Newton 16.
Dot and Barry Pannowitz and Jeff Rudd 14 just beat Tom Wilson, Alan Shapley and Don Moodie 12.
Paul Barnes, Roy Booth and Mike Wheeler 30 saw off Gayle, Sue Dent and Ted Fraser 12.
A magnificent effort from the Roadrunners.
The Golden Boot trophy was graciously presented to Roadrunners President, Bob Brooks by Secretary Manager Alan Shapley.
Bob, it must be said, was suitably humble in his acceptance of this coveted trophy.
The winning rink and the Dirtbusters chickens went to the team of Dot and Barry Pannowitz and Jeff Rudd representing the Roadrunners.
The losing rink, getting their rink fees back, was the team of Bill Easter, Dennis Jones and Lyn Newton representing the Staff and Directors.
Raffle winners included Ros Hackett, Jeff Rudd, Doug Broad, one of the junior Lill and June Manning.
Your scribe was too busy gloating to record the other winners. Why was he gloating? I don’t know, he was playing for the Staff/Directors, but is still a proud Roadrunner.
Next Sunday we will be back to normal bowls again. The cards will be called at 9am.
Expert tuition will be available from 8.30 to get new bowlers off on the right foot.
Visitors are welcome for a social game as are our lady bowlers.

Milton Ulladulla Bowling Club
Minor Pairs 2013
The minor pairs game was between two teams that had played great bowls during the competition and the final was no exception.
Sunday afternoon was a lovely sunny afternoon and the crowd in the club were looking forward to a great game of bowls between Kevin Lydiate and Phil Grabham against Paul James and Gary Hanna.
Phil and Kevin got away to a good start and by the seventh end were leasing 7-1 and that’s when pal and Gary found the right grass and weight and won the next five ends straight to lead at the twelfth end 13-8.
Gary and Paul played beautifully from then on to protect their lean and at the finish of play won 20-13.
Congratulations Gary and Paul as you gave us all in the club a good afternoon of entertainment.
Well done.
