A large crowd packed into the race track for the eight-race program, with many dressing to impress.
They flocked to the fashions on the field competitions, which saw sisters Amy Harding of Lake Conjola and Jenna Tate of Ulladulla claim first and seconds places in the Fashionable Fillies competition.
An excited Amy could not believe taking first place, saying she had never before won anything.
In the Most Elegant Lady section Milton’s Di L’Estrange won the judges’ approval ahead of Nicole Francis of Worrigee.
Joshua McCabe of Ulladulla won many hearts with her entry into the men’s category, but he was not quite able to take the crown from Tomerong’s Gideon Dhinakaran.
While there was plenty of action off the course with the fashions competitions, live music, a jumping castle and much more, the racing action also drew plenty of attention.
In the Home At Last Mollymook Cup the veteran Bruadar, ridden by Winona Costin, just managed to hold off the fast-finishing Half Irish and Perfect Weapon to take the prize for trainer Donna Drysdale of Kembla Grange.
Her husband John Drysdale was supposed to be riding Bruadar, but missed because of injury.
However for most people the day proved to be an outstanding success, with everyone enjoying the conditions, great racing, and plenty of fine food within the sponsors’ and VIP tents.
However, for anyone wanting yet more racing action, there is always the Melbourne Cup Calcutta coming up in the next few weeks.
Tickets in the Calcutta cost just $1 each and are available at a range of places including Milton IGA, Mollymook Golf Club and Rowen’s Arcade.
Each ticket gives the change of winning a Melbourne Cup runner and scoring a huge financial bonus from the Calcutta night on Monday, November 4, the eve of the race that stops a nation.
And while the people drawing the favourite runners have a chance to make big money, 30 per cent of all proceeds will go to the Milton Ulladulla Rotary Club’s community projects.
