Another year has swum by and like the flick of a tail, low tide is near. However another high tide will rise and welcome old and new members alike to a new year, including junior members.
The MUBCFC first weigh-in competition and barbecue of 2014 will be held on Sunday, January 19, at the MUBC.
Come and see the catch of the day and enjoy the fun.
You can join the club on the day and meet new people.
If you would like to join earlier and fish in the first comp, please contact Bruce on 0401 489 877 for details.
Our highlights for 2013 included functions (picnic days, Christmas in July and the end of year presentation nights), a river cruise, raffle nights each Wednesday night and monthly weigh-in competitions and barbecues with record catches such as Rex Penfold landing a 3.285kg Dusky Flathead, Brad Ginns hooking a 3.18kg Snapper and Les Toth catching a 1.29kg Morwong. Congratulations also to Les Toth for once again being the club champion of the year.
Raffle winners were 1st prize: Wendy Stevens, 2nd: Joan Pollick, 3rd: Bob Burke, 4th: Les Toth and 5th: Cameron McDonald.
We hope to sea you soon.
Marlin Fishing Club
Merry Christmas Marlin Fishing Club members and sponsors.
Here is hoping we all reap the rewards from the busy tourist time.
‘Tis the season to spend time and feasts with family and friends.
May you all enjoy and have a Safe and Merry Christmas.
Congratulations to Ian Davis for the Biggest Fish Of The Month, a 1.21kg Red Groper.
A rare one added to the variety weighed in.
We had Snapper, Morwong, Pigfish, Flathead and Trevally.
Our AGM was very well attended and all members seemed happy with the committee elected.
Our biggest change has been our president Lynne Howarth lightening her load to become vice president and congratulations to Noel Ralph, Norts, in becoming president of The Marlin Fishing Club.
Our 2013 Comp congratulates the winners and all those who were up there trying.
With members vying for the top positions and 3 in particular very close in points.
Wildthing headed to the water on Saturday morning only to break down with starter motor problems much to the delight of other crew, but all was not lost with Larry Barnes coming to the rescue rebuilding the starter motor allowing Wildthing to fish Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning to take out first prize.
Off Shore 1st Prize went to Chris Lolevski, 2nd Prize went to Ian Davis, 3rd Prize went to new president, Noel Ralph.
Rock Beach Estuary was won by Jeff Howarth, 2nd prize went to Reece Moore and 3rd prize went to Tammy Rye-Jensen.
Awesome effort by all of you.
On another note, the author of this article was netting two fish and overbalanced and fell landing on the gunnel when a wave hit the side of the boat pushing her back in showing her gunnel dancing skills and saving her from getting wet. (I think it was the shear fear of landing in the water that got me dancing.)
The next fishing week is Monday, February 17 – Sunday, February 23.
Our barbecue will be held on Sunday, February 23.
Off Shore you’re aiming for Flathead and Rock, Beach, Estuary you are after Bream.
Happy Birthday Deb, for December 7.
Wishing you and all our members a safe and happy festive season.
Looking forward to a new competition and as always, wishing you all safe times and tight lines.
