More than 30 members of the Milton Ulladulla Croquet Club gathered at the CWA Hall in Milton for their annual presentation of trophies and awards lunch.
As it was so close to Christmas, the festive season was in full swing with beautifully decked out table decorations and even a visit from Santa, (who looked suspiciously like a hairier version of George Timbs!).
Members were recognised for their performance during the Club’s various tournaments during the year, and winners were presented with their trophies.
In the novices category of golf croquet singles, the winner was Tony DeFriend.
The bronze category of golf croquet singles was won by George Emery with the runner up being Trevor McCarthy.
The golf doubles competition was won by Moya Flynn and George Emery.
Ricochet is a relatively new version of croquet played at the Club, this being only the second year of competition which was won this time by Dee Carrington with last year’s winner, Moya Flynn, being the runner up.
Earlier in the year, members of the Club played the Twilight Golf Croquet Team Competition and the winning team this year was Roy and Kay Bryant, George Timbs, Kerry Perkins and Lorraine Patterson.
Margaret Murray, founder and life member of the club presents a trophy each year to the most improved player which was Bev Smith.
Sadly, Margaret was unable to join us this year as her husband, Bill, passed away on the morning of the presentation lunch.
All members expressed their heartfelt sympathies to Margaret and her family.
Bill Murray was a popular social member of the club and long-time member of the Coastal Patrol and he will be greatly missed.
Dee Carrington, president, thanked Phyllis Emery and Jude and Jim Elston for organising such a successful event again this year and the caterer, Jonny Staples, of Citrus Catering and his staff for another excellent lunch.
In previous weeks, John Gilhooly and Jim Elston had travelled to Bathurst to take part in their annual Association Croquet Festival held over five days.
Competing in the top group, John and Jim played exceptionally well, with John just edging out Jim for first place with the net higher score.
The club congratulates John and Jim for this outstanding performance.
