AFTER being washed out for the past two years, Milton Show organisers were thrilled the 2014 event went off without a hitch.
With only a few showers throughout Friday and Saturday, show entries and gate takings were up and no events had to be cancelled, pleasing secretary Mick Scott.
“It was a great show overall,” he said.
“We’re very happy, considering the past two were washouts.”
Mr Scott said Friday was busy as expected, particularly when hundreds of school children and their families arrived to take part in the grand parade and pet show.
He said Friday’s horse events and cattle judging were also well patronised.
Into the evening, the horse sporting events, Milton idol, bush poetry competition and U Beaut utes were as popular as ever, with Chloe Dadd proving she had what it took on stage to take first place in the talent quest, before following up on Saturday and winning the Miss Teen Showgirl crown.
Youngster Lucas McDonald won the poetry competition.
Mr Scott said Saturday started out slowly as grey clouds loomed, but numbers picked up on Saturday afternoon and into the evening for the highly anticipated rodeo.
Saturday’s dog and cat shows were a hit, while the woodchop ring saw plenty of entries and action.
Mr Scott said pavilion entries were good across the board, despite flower and produce entries being down a little due to a dry summer and recent rain.
“The cakes, sewing and junior sections were great,” he said.
“It’s always good to see the young kids entering the show.”
This year’s poultry show saw a record number of chooks, ducks and geese on show, with the cancellation of the pigeon show providing much needed space for the additional, unexpected entries.
A highlight of Saturday is the announcement of the showgirl titles and coordinator Angela Brook said she was thrilled with the number and high standard of entrants this year.
While Thea Ingold was announced the 2014 Milton Showgirl in November, she was officially congratulated on the show stage and wished well in the up-coming zone competition to be held at the Ulladulla ExServos club on March 15.
“It’s always good to see the young kids entering the show.”

Chloe Dadd was named the Teen Showgirl, while Ellyn Cornock was chosen as the entrant’s choice winner.
There was a good roll-up for the Junior Showgirl judging, with the title being taken out by Grace Sullivan.
Angela said it was great to welcome 20 past showgirls to the stage and said many were involved in the show and helped judge competitions on the day before taking part in the grand parade.
Angela’s son Jack Ridley took out the Milton Junior Master Stockman title, with runner up Byron Powell and second runner up Cody Martin.
She said there were many young boys getting involved in the show, with 11 entering the competition.
This year’s JM Wallace Memorial Youth Achievement Award was presented to Arianne Ingold, the sister of showgirl Thea, whose entire family spent days setting up and disassembling the pavilion for the show.
The thrills of the rodeo capped off a busy show and Mr Scott said, despite the usual spills, it went well.
He said the kelpie working dog display was a new highlight this year and the addition of a marquee, complete with lounges and stage, was welcomed in the bar area.
