The Ulladulla Ladies Explorers Group will get together this Saturday at 12.30pm at Coastal Indulgence café in Milton.
Run through the Meetup website, the group will meet regularly for a meal, get together for walks and start exploring the local area.
Group founder Robin Chadwick said she would love to see lots of local ladies come along.
“I thought of the idea after I'd joined a Meetup group in Canberra and after searching for one in Ulladulla realised there were none there,” Robin said.
“My aim was to start a group for women new to the Ulladulla area to help people get to know others and form social networks - being new and not working makes it particularly hard to form social networks and friendships.”
Robin said it can be difficult to form friendships when you don’t have many connections in the local area and she hopes the Ulladulla Ladies Explorers Group will help local women to make those connections and friendships.
“This group encourages ladies who may feel a little isolated to come along and meet some new people,” Robin said.
“It will be casual, starting with a get to know you lunch and coffee and hopefully expanding from there to planning activities and days out that suit members.
“No one is obligated to come along to every event that is organised.
“It will be a case of lets meet initially and see where it takes us.”
While the group is only in the early stages, Robin said she would like the group to meet fortnightly or monthly depending on what suits members.
Robin said the group was open to local ladies of all ages and she is encouraging anyone interested to come along to the first lunch to find out more.
“I think when women get together there is no discrimination on age - we share many commonalities,” Robin said.
“We've had relationships, reared children, looked after houses and gardens and planned meals.
“We are interested in style, fashion, pets, and what goes on in our local community that affects us all - among lots of other things.
“I believe we are a dynamic force - and often untapped.
“So I welcome women of all ages to come along.”
Passionate about the local area, Robin said the name for the group, the Ulladulla Ladies Explorers Group, came from her hopes to get to do just that – explore the Ulladulla area.
“My aim is that we may evolve into a group that explores and enjoys all this lovely area has to offer,” she said.
“Whether it be a lunch trip out to a winery, a beach or bush walk, a Berry Farm visit, or a trip to a region further afield - like the Jervis Bay area or Berry.
“I hope those that come along can suggest other places and events to explore also.
“The name leaves options open I think.
“I guess to begin with we'll explore whether we can build a social network, enjoy each other’s company, have some laughs and share stories on what we all do as resident of the area.
“It really is a group that has room to evolve to anything we want it to.”
Robin and her husband have been holidaying in the local area for many years and in 2008 they built their retirement home in Dolphin Point.
Though not yet retired, the couple spend as much time as they can in Ulladulla and Robin is keen to make some new friends in the area.
