Mr Millen has been actively involved in the Milton-Ulladulla community for 15 years and said he was “blown away” when he arrived home from his holiday and learned of the award.
“I had absolutely no idea,” he said.
“I was very embarrassed when I got home and found out, because there must be better people in the community that are more deserving.”
Mr Millen was honoured for his work with the Ulladulla TPI Social and Welfare Club, the RSL, Legacy and the Ulladulla Marine Rescue Association.
He was congratulated and presented with a certificate by Member for South Coast Shelley Hancock at Kendall Cottage in Ulladulla last week.
“I was tickled pink when Shelley came and presented me with the certificate,” Mr Millen said.
“I felt very proud to accept it.”
Ulladulla TPI Social and Welfare Club member Mick Timmings said Mr Millen was “well and truly deserving” of the seniors award.
Mr Millen is also the Marine Rescue deputy commander at Ulladulla and unit commander Ken Lambert agreed he was “definitely deserving” of the honour.
His roles with the TPI and Legacy often overlap as Mr Millen visits members who are sick or in need and also helps look after the wives of veterans and war widows in the area.
“I have 12 ladies that I visit once a month,” he said.
“If their lawn needs mowing or they have a leaky roof, I contact a local tradesperson to come and carry out repairs.
“I visit members who are sick and need some help around the house or just some company.”
Mr Millen said the Milton-Ulladulla community was “like a big family” where people get in and help each other.
Mrs Hancock congratulated him on the award and said it was a way to “say thank you to seniors or organizations for their enthusiasm and impressive commitment”.
