EDITOR,
We have just witnessed one of the biggest lake opening acts of environmental vandalism seen in Lake Tabourie.
Why can the authorities undertake great acts of environmental vandalism? On Friday last many community members witnessed an operator undertake an act of environmental vandalism, that not only resulted in more sand going into the lake, creating more problems, but worse the lake closing in less than 48 hours.
We are told the cost of undertaking a lake opening is around $ 20,000 if that is the case the operator has made an enormous profit.
One excavator working for about three hours, $ 20,000 thanks very much.
I won’t even mention the number of support staff who sat around for most of the day in the caravan park doing squidely dit.
Yes, the lake was full but only a few more days of natural water run off would have allowed the lake to open on its own.
Last year when this happened, the lake stayed healthy and open for more than seven months.
Now, after great expense, and only 48 hours later the lake is again closed. Well done everybody associated with lake management!
We constantly hear that NSW water ways are among the most regulated in Australia.
How come then those acts of vandalism are allowed to happen?
We residents are encouraged, time and time again, we must care for our estuaries and maintain coastal management practises!
Yet our best efforts are destroyed when it suits the authorities?
Most of us in this beautiful village care passionately about our pristine area and take personally any act of environmental vandalism, particularly when it is undertaken by the authorities.
Why allow double standards?
Which of the many government departments charged with lake and water management are going to accept responsibility? Ha Ha!
