Following ongoing concerns about traffic congestion in the village, particularly either side of the pedestrian crossing, the RMS agreed to monitor traffic movements earlier this year.
During the week, RMS installed monitoring cameras on Princes Highway through Milton, including at the zebra crossing, near the courthouse, in Gordon Street and outside Milton IGA, to understand factors contributing to traffic congestion, especially during the holidays.
“The cameras will monitor car parking, motorists waiting to turn, pedestrians crossing the road away from and at the pedestrian crossing and the lights at Croobyar Road,” an RMS spokesperson said.
“The investigations will help Roads and Maritime focus on improvements which may help reduce delays.”
The investigations are in response to holiday congestion which at times can result in traffic banked up from Milton north to Boolgatta Flat and as far south as Ulladulla.
There have been calls from the public for alternate routes through Milton and for a bypass of the town.
Drivers have also suggested temporary lights at the crossing to reduce the frequency of cars stopping during busy periods, such as market days and festivals.
