The dog playground will be built at the rear of the Milton Showground and will be open to the public as part of the 24-hour off-leash dog area.
Milton-Ulladulla Dog Training Club instructor Janet Smith said the facility would be an asset for all dog owners in the community.
She said the playground had been designed by club members in conjunction with Shoalhaven City Council and would be fully fenced.
The play area will include a tunnel, weaving posts, jumps, a bridge, table and other features to keep dogs of all sizes amused.
The fenced area will also have a seat and rubbish bin for disposal of droppings.
While dog club members train and enter competitions using equipment, Mrs Smith said the playground would be basic and safe for dogs of all abilities.
“We are very excited that we’ll have a park like this for locals to use,” she said.
Mrs Smith said people using the facility could be assisted by dog club members who might also be at the park.
She explained that dog owners would need to have well behaved social animals when sharing the playground with other users.
This is the first doggie playground of its kind in the region, with a second facility proposed for the north of the city.
Council received a grant of $30,000 from Purina that will be used to fund both parks.
Work is expected to begin on the project within the next two months and the dog club is calling for sponsorship and donations to help pay for fencing that will include dual gates for added security.
