Milton Ulladulla Stamp Club (MUSC) president Mike Spicar said while he is not expecting the royal couple to attend the fair their invitation has been enshrined in a limited edition stamp booklet.
“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge won’t be coming unfortunately but we have created commemorative over printed booklet and miniature sheets for the event,” Mr Spicar said.
“Every year we create one and this year we had the invitation to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge printed on them.”
The booklets and miniature single stamps have been printed on the Australia Post January 2013 Royal Christening Stamps and only 60 of each have been printed.
“Already 90 per cent of the stamps have been sold to collectors and at the Stamp and Coin Fair we plan to auction number one and number 60 to the highest bidder.”
Saturday’s Fair marks the 37th year that MUSC have hosted the event and collectors from far and wide are expected to attend.
This year the highly anticipated event will be held at St Martin’s Anglican Church Ulladulla and Mr Spicar hopes that curious visitors to the region and locals to come along to see the array of stamps.
“For many years the Fair has been held on the Easter Sunday in conjunction with Blessing of the Fleet, but due to unforeseen circumstances it will be held this coming weekend,” Mr Spicar said.
“We hope people in the region still come along and see the collectors and enthusiasts on Saturday, April 26.
“MUSC members will offer free advice about collecting stamps and in few cases indicated an average estimated value as well or buying the coins and stamps.”
Stamp Collecting is one of the world’s most popular hobbies and Mr Spicar believes can be enjoyed by all ages.
“The real joy of stamp collecting is that it can be as inexpensive or expensive as one chooses,” he said.
“Many people do inherit stamps and become new collectors, but do not know how to carry on with collecting or storing a valued of collection.
“At the Stamp and Coin Fair we can give advice on how to do this.”
Mr Spicar and the team from MUSC said the Fair hopes to introduce people to a well loved hobby.
“The reason I collect is because you learn so much about history and geography,” he said.
“Every stamp has a story and reason why it was produced; you can find stamps of courtiers that no long exist.
“The cheapest and most successful way to collect stamps is to become a member of a stamp club where one can purchase a stamp well below catalogue value in club circuit books.”
