While most of the focus was on the Blessing of the Fleet parade, Frank Peniguel from Daylesford in Victoria played bowls at the Milton Ulladulla Bowling Club, the Mollymook Bowling Club, and the Lake Conjola Bowling Club on the same day.
Then following day he was Callala Bay, Sussex Inlet and St Georges Basin, before continuing his way north playing at two, three and sometimes even four bowling clubs each day.
The 71-year-old is bowling his way around much of Australia to set a new world record for the most clubs bowled at in a restricted time frame, but said he would not be venturing to the Northern Territory or Western Australia because the clubs were too spread out.
He started the effort on January 10, after the effort was sparked by his restoring an old Kombi Van and deciding to travel around the country.
An avid bowler, he decided to make bowling part of his trip.
“I want to leave a legacy for other bowlers,” Frank said.
“And I want to inspire people who are over 70 to get out and enjoy life.”
