The jubilation has continued this week as the seas stayed up as if a container ship filled with Viagra spilled its shipment.
With swell hanging around the six-foot range all week and water temperature still balmy, every surfer was content.
Sadly, though, as I type I can see a bit of a flat spell coming our way so this week may be a good time to relax the body and regroup for the next instalment which will hopefully not be too far away.
Steve Sayers found waves at the Bombie on Saturday morning to his liking and, hunting the peaks harder than a three-year-old chasing the Easter bunny, he was destined to get the wave of the morning.
With the seas peaking at six-foot plus it was pretty nice to see Steve being able to use the power of the wave and fly into solid bottom turn off the top combos.
Instead of jumping all over the waves like an overexcited monkey on a trampoline, Steve did connect a few more set waves to remain one of the surfers who kept the stoke alive.
Sneaking a surf amongst the hordes of travelling surfers can sometimes be tricky but other times it you can be quite lucky as Jordan Maloney found on Easter Sunday.
When most surfers were either passed out from an overindulgence of chocolate or simply found the Marlin a bit too irresistible, Jordy found the peak at Flatrock pretty much to himself which is pretty rare for this time of year.
Chiropractor Jordy decided to crack some lips instead of cracking spines which made him feel a little more satisfied.
After his surf he did play a bit of catch up by pouring his beer into an Easter egg to get the best of both worlds.
Just over a week ago he was making an appearance in his first ever ASP World Tour final but things have changed quickly for Australian surfer Josh Kerr.
The world No. 3 has been bundled out of the Rip Curl Pro in the third round after facing off against Adam Melling in an all-Australian match-up this morning. Melling defeated the Drug Aware Pro runner-up 15.56 to 12.60 in the first upset of round three at a chilly Bells Beach.
Kerr, a 30-year-old father-of-two, had priority in the dying minutes of the match up but the ocean went flat, depriving the Queenslander of a chance to take the heat.
In other early round three match-ups defending Bells champion Adriano de Souza beat fellow Brazilian Filip Toledo and Taj Burrow beat exciting rookie Mitch Crews in their all-Australian bout.
While the men’s competition was called on, officials gave the world’s top female surfers the day off after four of the eight women to surf in the quarter-finals were determined late Sunday.
Three of the four women to advance into the quarters were Australian with Tyler Wright and Sally Fitzgibbons joining Stephanie Gilmore in the business end of the event.
Hawaiian Coco Ho was the fourth surfer to earn an early spot in the quarters.
