The Ulladulla Marlins were enjoying local baseball until disinterest from other clubs, The Tilba cubs and The Moruya Mariners caused the league to collapse.
On Saturday senior baseball returned to the Shoalhaven with the Shoalhaven Mariners playing their first home game at Ison Park, Nowra.
The Nowra based club has waited seven long years to have a place to call home, playing all of their home games previously in the Wollongong suburb of Berkley.
Last year, after persistent lobbing the Shoalhaven City Council in conjunction with a Mulwaree Trust grant constructed a purpose built baseball park which will now be home to the club.
Local player and club secretary Gabe Tate joined the Mariners last season and is excited at the prospect of more Ulladulla locals joining the ranks.
“Juniors are the priority and now with a home ground to play on in Nowra it will be great to provide an alternative sport to all those looking for something different and challenging, a game that everyone gets to be involved in, where they can achieve their fun and skills, no matter their abilities or build,” Gabe said.
Gabe plays in the first grade Mariners team and also coaches the junior baseball in the summer.
The junior baseball and Tball season is set to kick off later this year in October.
